On 7 September 2026, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, travelled to Nuuk, Greenland.
During her visit, she met with Jens-Frederik Nielsen, Greenlandic Prime Minister, and Mette Frederiksen, Danish Prime Minister. Together, they participated in the signing ceremony to mark the launch of the Enhanced Satellite Connectivity Project. Mobilised under a Global Gateway Partnership Package of €200 million in investments in Greenland, the project aimed to support the expansion of satellite capacities across the country through European providers over the next five years, improving the reliability, speed and resilience of digital connections and benefiting remote settlements, schools, and businesses.
