This video stockshot provides illustration footage of the production of bathroom furniture such as washbasins, bathtub and toilets made from wood chips by Finnish company Woodio. The company based in Lahti aims to combat climate change by replacing products with a high carbon footprint with sustainable bio-material alternatives. They have developed the world’s first completely water-resistant wood composite as a more eco-friendly alternative to ceramics and stone. The material combines wood chips with a resin-based binder, and at the end of the products’ life-cycle they can be recycled into use for cement production.
This stockshot is part of a series aimed at showing examples of the EU bioeconomy sector. The Commission proposed an EU Bioeconomy Strategy in 2025, which aims to build a clean, competitive and resilient European economy. The bioeconomy offers Europe a chance to strengthen its strategic autonomy, replace fossil-based materials, create jobs, and lead the global shift to clean industries.
