On 22 November 2025, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, accompanied by António Costa, President of the European Council, went to Johannesburg, South Africa, to participate in the G20 Summit.
This G20 Summit focused on inclusive growth, global solidarity, and sustainability, with particular attention to the priorities of developing and African economies. Leaders discussed debt relief and reform of international financial institutions, climate action and energy transition, food security, and trade and multilateral cooperation. The Summit also addressed critical minerals, digital transformation, and emerging technologies, while reaffirming commitments to reducing inequality and strengthening global governance.
