Following today's decision by the Conference of Presidents,

I am able to announce that the 2026 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought has been awarded to the International Criminal Court and its officials. OK.

The The European Union is built on respect for multilateralism and international institutions,

and this prize recognizes the important work of the Court in upholding international law and justice.

I also want to use this moment to recognize Tundulissu from Tanzania and Tarawneh and Romina Ranalli on behalf of all those persecuted by the Iranian Islamic regime.

Thank you, Tulissu, who is currently imprisoned, has worked for free and fair elections in Tanzania.

Taran and Romina should have their whole lives ahead of them,

and yet one faces a death sentence and the other decades in prison for protesting.

They are all now part of our Saharov family.

I thank the political groups for their nominations and decisions.

And the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Development Committee and Human Rights Subcommittee for their work.

The award ceremony will take place here in Strasbourg during the December plenary session. Thank you.
