On 2 October 2026, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, travelled to Podgorica, Montenegro.
During her visit, she attended the inauguration ceremony and then toured the National Coordination Centre. Funded by the EU and implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as part of the ‘EU Support for Migration and Border Management’ programme, the centre provided the infrastructure necessary to enhance inter-agency coordination and information exchange for risk analysis and situational awareness in border management.
Ursula von der Leyen explained that the centre represented a significant step towards Montenegro’s future membership of the EU.
