Home prices have raced far ahead of local incomes across much of Europe, placing Lisbon among the continent's least affordable housing markets.In June 2026, Members of the European Parliament’s Housing Committee visited Dublin, to examine the causes of Ireland’s housing crisis and the impact it is having on renters, families and young people struggling to secure stable accommodation. MEPs got a first-hand experience of the situation in Dublin, where high housing costs and limited supply continue to dominate everyday life. In recent years, Slovakia’s housing crunch is worsening as well, amid a shortage of flats that is driving prices up and putting home ownership out of reach for some groups.
