Electricity currently accounts for only about 23% of total final energy consumption in the EU. The target is to raise this to 32% by 2030. The EU Electrification Action Plan, foreseen in July 2026, will speed-up the cost-effective and system-friendly electrification of the EU’s energy consumption in transport, industry and buildings. Continuous investments in grid flexibility and clean energy are a precondition to enable this transition. This video shows examples of energy grids, clean energy and the main energy intensive sectors and attempts to increase their electrification.
