On 30 January 2026, Dan Jørgensen, European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, travelled to the Leiria region, Portugal, as part of his European Affordable Housing Tour. 

During his visit, he surveyed the damage to buildings, nature and high-voltage power poles caused by the Storm Kristin in late January 2026. On this occasion, the Commission expressed the EU’s solidarity with Portugal and the families of those affected, and highlighted the severe damage and power outages. He also reaffirmed the EU’s support for the affected region.
