Over a third of Europe’s renewable electricity comes from wind power. Watch our video to learn how wind energy is powering Europe’s cleaner and greener future, boosting energy independence and creating jobs.
Wind turbines.
Over a third of Europe’s renewable electricity comes from the movement of air.
Wind power plays a pivotal role in the EU’s energy landscape,
with the EU having nearly doubled its wind power in the last decade.
The EU has been supporting the creation of new wind farms both at sea and on land,
with their locations carefully selected.
Natural wind currents must be just right,
the power grid not too far away,
and additional considerations for the proximity to houses and avoiding shipping lanes.
Great care is taken so that wind farms can operate in harmony
with their surrounding ecosystems, and, where possible,
provide environmental benefits to support biodiversity conservation and restoration.
Wind power is a shining example of European innovation,
with some of the main manufacturers of turbine components being from the EU.
By investing in more wind farms,
as well as their connections to the grid,
European jobs are expected to increase from around 300,000 today
to close to a million by 2030.
Clean energy from wind farms can be distributed both locally, and across borders,
thanks to the EU’s interconnected power grids,
benefitting households and industries alike, throughout Europe.
As production levels rise, not only will electricity prices shrink,
but Europe will continue to achieve energy independence and security
whilst boosting our internal market.
Wind energy is literally capturing the breeze and
powering Europe’s cleaner and greener future.
