On 30-31 July 2026, Hadja Lahbib, European Commissioner for Equality, and European Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management, travelled to Gironde, France, where she visited frontline responders tackling the wildfires. The area was among those in France affected most by the raging wildfires. During her visit, Hadja Lahbib met French authorities and first responders and expressed gratitude for their efforts. She wanted to witness first-hand the ongoing emergency response. France had been an active participant in the EU civil protection mechanism, and the EU had deployed firefighting planes and helicopters as part of its emergency support. Rapid emergency maps had also been produced through the EU's Copernicus satellite service. This video shows Hadja Lahbib's visit to the 106 airbase in Gironde, with a helicopter flight over the affected areas.
