On 13 July 2026, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, received the visit of Maria Melchior, Director of the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and co-Chair of the Special Panel on Child Safety Online, and Jörg Fegert, President of the European Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (ESCAP) and co-Chair of the Special Panel on Child Safety Online, at the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium, for the handover of the report on children’s safety online.
On this occasion, they gave a joint press conference where Ursula von der Leyen announced forthcoming EU measures to strengthen child online safety through stricter platform rules, age verification and age-appropriate access to social media.
