On 7 July 2026, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and António Costa, President of the European Council, travelled to Ankara, Türkiye, to take part in the NATO Summit Defence Industry Forum, hosted by Mark Rutte, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and Türkiye. The summit focused on strengthening the defence industry and included high-level announcements of national, multinational and industry-led agreements, deliverables and initiatives. These were centred on a diverse range of NATO priority capability areas, including space and surveillance, integrated air and missile defence and strike capabilities.
