On 4 March 2020, Ylva Johansson, European Commissioner for Home Affairs, and Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of promoting our European Way of Life, gave a joint press conference on immediate actions to support Greece, at the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium.

As a contribution to the extraordinary Justice and Home Affairs Council, the Commission presented an Action Plan of measures to be taken by the Union and the Member States together to provide critical support to Greece in managing the extraordinary situation at the external borders. This follows the visit of of the day before of Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, with Charles Michel, President of the European Council, David Maria Sassoli, President of the EP, and Andrej Plenković, Croatian Prime Minister, at the Greek-Turkish and Bulgarian-Turkish borders alongside Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Greek Prime Minister, and Boïko Borissov, Bulgarian Prime Minister.
