On 25 February 1998, Thomas Klestil, President of Austria, visited the European Commission, in Brussels. He was received by Jacques Santer, President of the EC, and attended part of the weekly meeting of the college. They discussed about forthcoming Austrian Presidency of the Council, on 1 July, but also about Austria's specific concerns such as Alpine transit, crossborder problems, genetically modified products and their its wish that the EU deal more with culture.
