On 29 September 2026, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, Raffaele Fitto, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Cohesion and Reforms, Andrius Kubilius, European Commissioner for Defence and Space, and Apostolos Tzitzikostas, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, took part in the 2026 European Interconnection Days. The discussions focused in particular on the completion of the trans-European transport network, the removal of bottlenecks, transport resilience and military mobility, as well as on investment in infrastructure, the European maritime sector and improving passenger connectivity.
