On 15 April 2026, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, gave a press conference on the digital age verification app.

The Commission’s new digital age verification app is designed to improve the protection of minors online. The initiative forms part of the EU’s broader efforts to create a safer digital environment for children and to strengthen the enforcement of European rules on online platforms.

The app will allow users to verify their age anonymously when accessing online services, while respecting high standards of privacy and data protection.
