On 23 March 2022, Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, paid a visit to a primary school at the Athénée Royale Leonardo Da Vinci, in Anderlecht, Belgium, were Ukrainian children are welcomed.

On this occasion, Mariya Gabriel namely met with Caroline Désir, Minister of the Government of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels in charge of Education, and received a presentation of the DASPA system, a scheme for the reception and schooling of newcomer and assimilated pupils.
