On 18 July 2014, Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Transport and Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro (pro term), made a statement concerning the investigation into the causes of the Malaysia Airlines MH17 plane crash. He indicated that the European aviation crisis coordination cell (EACCC) has been activated so that there is proper coordination of the effects on airspace to guarantee the safety of flights.
