On 7 March 2012, Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, went to Longyearbyen in the Arctic region of Norway, and met with Odd Olsen Ingerø, Governor of Svalbard, and Jonas Gahr Støre, Norwegian Minister for Foreign Affairs.
