Special Meeting of the Regulatory Committee on Civil Aviation Security: round table with the participation of Siim Kallas
On 5 November 2010, National Experts from the EU Member States and EEA (European Economic Area) countries gathered in Brussels for a meeting devoted to civil aviation security measures in the European airspace, following the discovery of a bomb on a US-bound UPS cargo plane at East Midlands Airport and a bomb on a FedEx plane in Dubai.
Some European countries including Britain and Germany tightened air security measures amid fears about the safety of cargo. France and the Netherlands also banned cargo flights originating from Yemen.
The meeting was attended by Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Transport, and by Etienne Schouppe, acting Belgian Secretary of State for Mobility and President in office of the Council.
