Statement by Siim Kallas on air transport and the volcanic ash
Ahead of the midday press briefing, Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Transport, said the European air traffic has returned to normal.
The European Commission was now looking on what lessons could be learnt, on future crisis management in air transport at EU level. On 27/04/2010, Siim Kallas was going to present to the EU Commission College, the first reflections regarding a European regulatory framework: passengers rights, economic impact, and response to specific volcanic threat.
The European Air Traffic Agency said airspace over the continent, was almost completely free of any remnants of the volcanic ash cloud, that caused massive flight disruptions over the past week.
