The Members of the European Commission gathered on 3 February 2010 in Brussels for the last weekly meeting of Barroso I. The College discussed several issues related to the implementation of the Stability and Growth Pact in the European Union. The Commission adopted its opinion on the Stability Programme of Greece. The EC wants to ensure that the Greek budget deficit is corrected and that the Greek authorities run economic policies that will increase the country's competitiveness, and that they address the systematic failures which have so far prevented the reporting of reliable budget statistics by Greece in a timely way. The Commission also proposed to increase the powers of Eurostat to monitor the quality of statistics in the field of public finances.
