Visiting the European Commission on 27 May 2009 in Brussels, Werner Faymann, Austrian Federal Chancellor, met bilaterally with José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and attended the EC College weekly meeting. Economic crisis, unemployment, climate action, energy and the preparation for the June European Council for a common response to lead Europe's out of economic crisis were on the top of the agenda. Werner Faymann raised the issue of security in the enlarged EU. He called for an extension of the army’s border patrols beyond their scheduled cancellation at the end of the year 2009. Both meetings took place in the Charlemagne building after a fire alarm forced total evacuation of the building. It was the second alarm in two weeks.
