Meeting of the first Single Commission of the European Communities following the entry into force of the Treaty that merged the executive bodies of the European Communities, including the European Coal and Steel Community, the European Atomic Energy Community and the European Economic Community. The meeting was chaired by Jean Rey, who paid tribute to the role of the Presidents and Members of the different institutions. This merger is an important element in building Europe and in progressing on the path toward a unified Europe.
