On 31 August 2026, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, accompanied by Hadja Lahbib, European Commissioner for Equality, and European Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management, went to the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) in Brussels, Belgium. They were welcomed by Maciej Popowski, Director-general of DG European civil protection and humanitarian Aid Operation of the European Commission. The discussions focused on coordinating the European response to disasters and crises, as well as on strengthening preparedness, resilience and solidarity among Member States.
