The summer of 2022 has been exceptionally hot and dry leading to unprecedented drought in most parts of Europe. According to Commission experts, the drought situation appears to be the worst for at least 500 years. Hot temperatures and severe rainfall deficit have affected almost all rivers across Europe, hampering energy production and river transport. Crops are also severely affected in large parts of Europe.
